Living in a country for 9 years where cookies are not a regularly eaten baked good meant that if I wanted a cookie my options were limited. But I could always find a chocolate chip cookie (though they weren't always the best cookies). I have never never been a big fan of chocolate chip cookies but they are the cookies that I will always make if someone asks!
I looked all over for a good chocolate chip recipe. I wanted to find something that was chewy and soft that wasn't more chocolate than cookie.
I decided to use mini chocolate chips in these cookies because I thought they made the perfect cookie-to-chocolate ratio. You get some chocolate in every bite but you also can taste the cookie. If you want to use a different kind of chip go for it! The great thing about this cookie base is that it

Preheat the oven to 350° F.

Mix together butter and sugars until creamy.

Add eggs and vanilla, mix well.

Slowly add flour and baking soda until combined.

Add the chocolate chips.

Place heaping tablespoon sized dough balls on a cookie sheet and bake for 11-13 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the cookie sheet for about 3 minutes before transferring them to a wire cooling rack.
